THE 2nd SUCCESSFUL COVERIS INNOVATION DAY FOCUSED ON T-IML TECHNOLOGY

Tuesday, October 4th, 2016

The groundbreaking Coveris Innovation Day was again a great success and welcomed representatives from many of the top food brands (Bel, Charles et Alice, Euralis, GBfoods, FrieslandCampina, Alpro, Nestlé Purina PetCare etc). The event took place in the middle of September on the grounds of Coveris Rigid in Auneau, France, and included specialist presentations, a factory tour and Q&A session.

This edition’s focus was on Coveris’ breakthrough thermoforming in-mold labelling technology (T-IML). T-IML is the first decorated 360° high-barrier and retortable plastic packaging in the Food, Baby Food and Pet Food industries.

“We explained to the attendees the key benefits of this technology compared to traditional decoration technologies such as dry offset printing, shrink sleeve, labels. Moreover, the T-IML has the potential to substitute glass and aluminum being suitable for the retort process”, says Olivier Laigre, Commercial
& Marketing Manager.

The extensive capabilities of Coveris Rigid France SAS were on show throughout the day. Points covered include the three production plants in France, their more than 50 years of expertise and know-how, and the continuous significant investments made in the plants, such as the new T-IML line and cleanroom facilities.

Participants were given a tour of Coveris Rigid’s first cleanroom production facility (ISO class 7 ISO 14644-1) where they were able to see the production process in action. The cleanroom controls purity related parameters, such as the concentration of airborne particles, temperature, humidity and pressure. Inside the cleanroom, a thermoforming line produces microbiologically clean packaging for products with the highest purity requirements for consumers such as babies, who need it most.

The program further included a range of inspiring presentations and activities, such as:

  •  An introduction to Coveris and its wide range of technological capabilities, including recent developments and future plans in the field of innovative sustainable packaging solutions that through convenience add value to people’s lives
  •  2020 packaging trends (Coveris’ Innovation & Development Capabilities – How to convert ideas into packaging – differentiating packaging solutions – from the Raw Material to the final product, presented by Yves Caunègre
  •  An informative Q&A session, where Coveris experts answered questions on T-IML developments and new label types (matt, gloss, paper haptic, retortable) and T-IML applications in additional segments, such as baby and pet food. Advantages of multi-layer barrier sheets were also discussed.

Based on the positive reception of the first Innovation Day, which focused on Injection Compression Molding technology, and the success of this second event, Coveris Rigid France SAS is excited to partner with Synerlink for the upcoming Innovation Day on 11 October 2016. Both current and prospective clients are invited to attend. A highlight of the event will be a demonstration of NEOCELL®PP+ sheet thermoforming on a standard FFS machine, which equally accepts compact PS sheets and NEOCELL®PP+, the first breakable PP sheet, and winner of the prestigious Oscar de l’Emballage (Packaging Oscar) in November 2014.
